Kaunti zachukua tahadhari baada ya kisa Nairobi
KISA cha kwanza cha Ebola nchini kilichothibitishwa Nairobi kimezua taharuki na kuchochea kaunti mbalimbali kuimarisha ufuatiliaji wa ugonjwa huo, kufufua vituo vya kutenga wagonjwa na kuwaandaa wahudumu wa afya kukabiliana na visa vinavyoweza kujitokeza. Hatua hizo zinalenga kukagua watu na bidhaa kupitia barabara kuu, mipaka, bandari, viwanja vya ndege na vituo vya utalii, hali inayoongeza hatari ya virusi kusambaa kwa kasi endapo tahadhari hazitachukuliwa. Mombasa ni miongoni mwa kaunti zinazochukuliwa kuwa katika hatari kubwa kutokana na nafasi yake kama lango kuu la biashara ya kikanda. Ukaguzi wa madereva wa malori ya masafa marefu unatarajiwa kuanza hivi karibuni. Afisa wa kituo cha operesheni za dharura cha Port Reitz, Fatma Ali, alisema wahudumu wa afya wamewekwa katika hali ya tahadhari katika maeneo muhimu, ikiwemo Bandari ya Mombasa, Uwanja wa Ndege wa Kimataifa wa Moi na barabara zinazotumiwa na malori ya mizigo kutoka nchi jirani. "Tunapanua kampeni za kutoa elimu kwa umma kuhusu jinsi ya kujikinga na Ebola, umuhimu wa kutafuta matibabu mapema na kukabiliana na taarifa potovu zinazoweza kudhoofisha juhudi za kukabili ugonjwa huu," alisema Bi Ali. Wahudumu wa afya pia wamefanya mazoezi ya kukabiliana na mlipuko wa Ebola, yakilenga kutenga wagonjwa, kufuatilia waliowasiliana nao, kuchukua sampuli na kukabiliana na dharura. Hata hivyo, uchunguzi wa Taifa Leo ulibaini kuwa kituo kimoja cha kutenga wagonjwa cha Port Reitz kiko katika hali isiyoridhisha, huku eneo la kuingia likiwa limezungukwa na vichaka vilivyomea. Madereva wa malori ya masafa marefu pia wamelalamika kuwa hawajahusishwa vya kutosha katika maandalizi hayo. Katibu Mkuu wa Chama cha Madereva na Makondakta wa Masafa Marefu, Roman Waema, alitaka serikali kuwashirikisha badala ya kuweka hatua zinazoweza kutatiza biashara kwenye Barabara Kuu. "Tuko hatarini. Tunasikia mengi kuhusu Ebola kwenye vyombo vya habari, ilhali tunasafiri kila siku nje ya nchi, hata DRC. Tunaomba serikali itushirikishe na kutusaidia kuchukua hatua bora za kujilinda," alisema Bw Waema. Kaunti nyingi zimeanza kutumia tena vituo vya kutenga wagonjwa vilivyoanzishwa wakati wa Covid-19 kama vituo vya karantini vya Ebola. Homa Bay imefufua vituo kadhaa, huku Mkurugenzi wa Huduma za Matibabu katika Kaunti hiyo, Amos Dulo, akisema vimekaguliwa na kuthibitishwa kuwa vinaweza kuhudumia wanaoshukiwa kuambukizwa. Vituo hivyo ni pamoja na Malela, Nyagoro, Pala Koguta, Ober, Nyangiela na Kandiege. Homa Bay iko katika eneo linalohusiana kwa karibu na Uganda kupitia Ziwa Victoria, ambako watu huvuka kati ya nchi hizo mbili, hali inayoongeza hofu ya kusambaa kwa magonjwa ya kuambukiza. Huko Eldoret, Hospitali ya Mafunzo na Rufaa ya Moi (MTRH) imeanzisha kituo maalumu cha kutenga wagonjwa pamoja na kikosi cha kukabiliana na dharura. Afisa Mkuu Mtendaji wa hospitali hiyo, Dkt Philip Kirwa, alisema kituo hicho kina uwezo wa kuhudumia hadi wagonjwa 24 wanaoshukiwa kuwa na Ebola. "Kituo hicho pia hutumika kama cha wagonjwa mahututi na kina vifaa vya kisasa vya kudhibiti kusambaa kwa virusi na kuhakikisha usalama wa wahudumu wa afya," alisema Dkt Kirwa. Katika Kirinyaga, Mkurugenzi wa Matibabu wa Kaunti, Dkt Hesbon Gakuo, alisema wodi ya kutenga wagonjwa katika Hospitali ya Rufaa ya Kerugoya inaweza kuhifadhi wagonjwa 13. Aliwataka wakazi wenye homa, maumivu makali ya kichwa, kutapika, kuhara au kutokwa damu bila sababu kufika hospitalini haraka. "Tumeanzisha timu zetu za dharura na tuko tayari iwapo kutakuwa na mlipuko," alisema. Kaunti za Nakuru, Kericho, Nyandarua, Narok na Bomet pia zimeimarisha maandalizi. Bomet imetenga vituo katika Hospitali ya Rufaa ya Longisa na hospitali za maeneo bunge. Nakuru imeshirikisha wahamasishaji wa afya ya jamii na viongozi 36 wa dini kutoa elimu kuhusu Ebola na kusaidia kubaini visa vinavyoshukiwa. Hatua hizi zimechukuliwa baada ya Wizara ya Afya kuthibitisha kisa cha kwanza cha Ebola aina ya Bundibugyo nchini. Mgonjwa huyo, raia wa Kenya aliyekuwa akiishi Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Congo (DRC), alianza kuugua akiwa DRC kabla ya kusafiri kwa barabara hadi Kampala na baadaye kwa ndege hadi Nairobi, ambako alitengwa na kupimwa na kuthibitishwa kuwa na virusi. Shirika la Afya Duniani (WHO) limetangaza mlipuko wa Ebola Bundibugyo nchini DRC na Uganda kuwa dharura ya afya ya umma kutokana na hatari ya kusambaa kimataifa. WHO iliripoti visa 5,794 vilivyothibitishwa na vifo 2,786 kufikia Agosti 26, huku Ituri, DRC, ikiwa kitovu cha mlipuko huo. Bundibugyo ni aina ya Ebola ambayo haina chanjo au dawa maalumu iliyoidhinishwa kwa sasa, kwa mujibu wa WHO.
