Watoto wanane waliokuwa wakifunga waokolewa kutoka nyumba ya mamake pasta Mackenzie
WATOTO wanane wameokolewa kutoka nyumbani kwa Anastacia Mumwele, mama wa mhubiri tata Paul Mackenzie, eneo la Furunzi, Malindi, Kaunti ya Kilifi, ambako inadaiwa walikuwa wakilazimishwa kufunga na kunyimwa fursa ya kwenda shuleni. Wapelelezi kutoka Idara ya Upelelezi wa Jinai (DCI) walimkamata Bi Mumwele, nyanya wa watoto hao, wakati wa msako katika nyumba yake Jumatano alasiri. Watoto hao, wenye umri wa kati ya miaka sita na 14, walipatikana ndani ya nyumba hiyo. Watano kati yao wanaaminika kuwa watoto wa Mackenzie. Afisa mkuu wa DCI, ambaye alizungumza kwa masharti ya kutotajwa jina, alisema wapelelezi walichukua hatua baada ya kupata taarifa kwamba watoto hao walikuwa wakinyimwa chakula na kulazimishwa kufuata mafundisho yanayohusishwa na imani ya Mackenzie kuhusu mwisho wa dunia. "Tulipokea taarifa kwamba nyanya yao alikuwa amewafungia watoto hao na kuwanyima chakula, hali iliyotulazimu kuchukua hatua na kuwaokoa," afisa huyo alisema. Watoto hao walipelekwa katika Kituo cha Polisi cha Malindi, ambako maafisa wa Kitengo cha Kulinda Watoto walitarajiwa kuchukua jukumu la ustawi wao na kuwawezesha kuhamishiwa katika mazingira salama zaidi. Mwanawe Mackenzie, Dan Mackenzie, alisema aliripoti suala hilo kwa polisi baada ya baadhi ya ndugu zake na binamu zake kukataa kula. Pia alisema aligundua kuwa watoto hao hawakuwa wakienda shuleni. "Nilichukua hatua na kwenda kuripoti kwa polisi. Hali yao si mbaya, lakini walipewa chakula kabla ya kuchukuliwa na polisi," Dan alisema katika mahojiano na Taifa Leo. Dan alidai watoto hao walikuwa wakiendelea kufuata mafundisho yanayofanana na yale yanayohusishwa na vifo vya zaidi ya watu 400 katika mauaji ya Shakahola. Afisa huyo wa DCI alisema Bi Mumwele atazuiliwa hadi atakaposhtakiwa mahakamani Alhamisi. "Tutamshtaki kwa makosa yanayohusiana na ukatili dhidi ya watoto, kuwatesa na kuwanyima watoto haki ya kupata elimu," afisa huyo alisema. Kuokolewa kwa watoto hao kunafanyika zaidi ya miaka miwili baada ya Mackenzie kukamatwa na kushtakiwa pamoja na washtakiwa wenzake kadhaa kuhusiana na vifo vinavyohusishwa na mauaji ya Shakahola na Kwa Binzaro katika Kaunti ya Kilifi. Mackenzie anakabiliwa na mashtaka 191 ya mauaji yanayohusiana na vifo vya Shakahola. Waendesha mashtaka pia wamemshtaki kwa kosa la kuua bila kukusudia kuhusiana na vifo vingine 52 vinavyohusishwa na mauaji ya Kwa Binzaro. Pia anakabiliwa na mashtaka ya ugaidi na kueneza misimamo mikali.
