Hafla hiyo inaashiria kuanza kwa ujenzi wa kiwanda kikubwa cha kusafisha mafuta na bidhaa za petroli pamoja na eneo maalum la kiuchumi la viwanda katika Kaunti ya Lamu. Mradi huo una thamani ya Sh2 trilioni na unatarajiwa kuwa miongoni mwa uwekezaji mkubwa zaidi wa sekta binafsi katika Afrika Mashariki. MAHAKAMA ya Rongo imehukumu mwanamke mmoja kutoka Kaunti ya Migori kifungo cha miaka 25 gerezani baada ya kupatikana na hatia ya kujaribu kumuua mke mwenza kwa kumwagia asidi usoni katika shambulio lililomuacha na majeraha makubwa ya kudumu. Hakimu Mkuu wa Rongo, Chrisphine Orwo, alimpatia Margaret Atieno Otieno adhabu hiyo baada ya kupata kuwa alimshambulia Alfine Anyango mnamo Novemba 25, 2024, katika eneo la Saria, Kaunti Ndogo ya Awendo. Mahakama iliambiwa kuwa saa moja na nusu jioni siku hiyo, Alfine alikuwa akihudumia wateja katika kibanda chake wakati Margaret, ambaye ni mke mwenza wake, alipowasili. Awali hakukuwa na dalili yoyote ya hatari. Hata hivyo, muda mfupi baadaye Margaret alimmiminia kemikali kali usoni. Katika utetezi wake, Margaret alikana mashtaka na kudai kuwa kulikuwa na ugomvi baada ya kutukanwa na mke mwenza wake. Hata hivyo, mahakama ilitupilia mbali maelezo hayo na kuamua kuwa upande wa mashtaka ulithibitisha kesi bila shaka yoyote. Hakimu Orwo alisema majeraha aliyopata Alfine yalikuwa ya kutishia maisha na yalimuacha na ulemavu pamoja na kasoro ya kudumu usoni.
