WADAU wa elimu wanataka riba inayotozwa kwenye mikopo ya wanafunzi ifutiliwe mbali ili kupunguza mzigo wa madeni na kuwarahisishia njia ya kurejesha hela walizokopeshwa. Baraza la Elimu la Waislamu limependekeza kuondolewa kwa kipengele kinachotoza riba katika Mswada wa Ufadhili wa Elimu ya Juu na Vyuo vya Kadri, 2026, unaojadiliwa na Kamati ya Elimu katika Bunge la Kitaifa. Baraza hilo limeitaka Kamati hiyo kufuta Kifungu kinachoweka riba kwenye mikopo, pamoja na kile kinachogusia muda wa kurejesha mikopo. "Aliyekopeshwa arudishe kiasi alichokopa na ikiwa kuna ada ya usimamizi ya kutozwa basi kuwe na mjadala kuhusu kiasi hicho," akasema Said Abdalla, mwanachama wa baraza hilo. Katibu Mkuu wa KUPPET Akello Misori alisema hali hiyo inaweza kufanya mgao wa kila mwaka usiwe wa uhakika na kuwaacha wanafunzi wanaoendelea na masomo bila fedha za kukamilisha kozi . "Hakuna hakikisho kwamba wanafunzi wanaoendelea na masomo watapata ufadhili hadi watakapokamilisha masomo yao," akasema Bw Misori. Vuguvugu la Elimu Bora (EBWG) nalo limeitaka serikali kutoa ufadhili kamili kwa wanafunzi wa vyuo vikuu na taasisi za elimu ya juu, ikijumuisha karo, malazi, chakula, vifaa vya mafunzona usafiri. Kundi hilo pia limependekeza ufadhili utolewe kupitia ruzuku, ufadhili wa masomo na mikopo, kutegemea mahitaji ya mwanafunzi na aina ya gharama inayohusika. Mwakilishi wa EBWG Mohamed Farah alisema kila mwanafunzi anayekubaliwa katika taasisi ya umma iliyoidhinishwa, anapaswa kupata msaada wa kutosha kugharamia masomo kwa muda wote yuko chuoni. "Ufadhili kamili unamaanisha kugharamia karo, malazi, masomo, usafiri, afya, mafunzo ya kazi, utafiti na gharama nyingine muhimu," akasema. Mshauri wa sera na mikakati katika EBWG, Boaz Waruku naye alisema Helb inafaa kutoa ruzuku, ufadhili wa masomo au mikopo kulingana na mahitaji ya mwanafunzi.
