MWANA wa mhubiri tata Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, Dan Mackenzie, ameeleza kuridhika kwake na hukumu iliyotolewa dhidi ya baba yake ya kupatikana na hatia ya kuua watoto 190 katika msitu wa Shakahola kati ya Januari 2021 na Septemba 2023. Dan alisema hana sababu ya kuhuzunika kwa sababu ya mtu ambaye mafundisho yake yalimfanya aache shule akiwa Darasa la Saba na kujitafutia riziki kwa kuendesha bodaboda. Kijana huyo mwenye umri wa miaka 24, alisema hukumu hiyo imewaletea faraja familia zilizopoteza wapendwa wao katika mkasa huo, akisisitiza kwamba yeye mwenyewe alikuwa miongoni mwa walioathiriwa na mafundisho ya babake alipokuwa mtoto. "Ni faraja kwetu na kwa waathiriwa waliopoteza wapendwa wao Shakahola. Haki imetendeka. Ilikuwa kipindi kigumu kwetu na kwa waathiriwa. Sasa tumepata faraja na tunasubiri hukumu ya adhabu," alisema. Dan, ambaye amejitenga na mafundisho ya kidini ya babake, alisema hakuhuzunishwa na uamuzi wa Jaji Diana Kavedza kwa sababu hakushiriki katika uhalifu huo. Dan alisema alitambua uzito wa yaliyokuwa yakitendeka Shakahola baada ya babake kukamatwa Aprili 2023 na kesi kuanza kusikilizwa mahakamani. "Hapo ndipo nilipogundua kwamba mambo aliyokuwa akitufanyia utotoni ndiyo aliyokuwa akifanya msituni," alisema. Pia alifurahia kuokolewa kwa ndugu zake watano, dada watatu na wavulana wawili, waliokuwa wakiishi na nyanya yao katika nyumba ya familia eneo la Furunzi tangu Mackenzie alipokamatwa. Dan alisema aliripoti hali yao kwa polisi, hatua iliyosababisha msako na kuokolewa kwao. "Natumai sasa watakuwa na maisha mazuri," alisema. Wakati wa ziara ya Mahakama Kuu nyumbani kwa Mackenzie mwezi Juni, Dan aliambia mahakama kwamba ndugu zake walikuwa wamezama katika mafundisho ya babake na kwamba misimamo mikali ya kidini ilikuwa imekita mizizi katika familia. Alitoa ushahidi huo katika kesi nyingine inayohusiana na mkasa huo, ambapo Mackenzie na wengine wanakabiliwa na mashtaka ya mauaji kama uhalifu dhidi ya binadamu kuhusiana na vifo vya watu 53 katika kijiji cha Kwa Bi Nzaro. Licha ya matendo ya babake, Dan alisema majirani zake wanaelewa kwamba hakuhusika na uhalifu huo.
