Teknolojia nafuu ziwafikie wakulima
WABUNIFU wa teknolojia za kilimo na mabadiliko ya tabianchi wamehimizwa kuibuka na bunifu faafu, rahisi kutumia na endelevu zinazokidhi mahitaji ya wakulima wa mashamba madogo. Wakulima wa mashamba madogo wanakadiriwa huzalisha zaidi ya asilimia 75 ya chakula nchini Kenya. Mkurugenzi Mkuu wa KickStart International, Peter Juma, anasema wakulima hawakubali teknolojia kwa sababu ni mpya, bali kwa kuwa zinatatua changamoto halisi, zinapatikana kwa gharama nafuu na huwaletea faida. "Teknolojia hukubalika ikiwa ni nafuu – kifedha, inatatua tatizo halisi na inajilipa yenyewe," alisema. Alisema hayo majuzi wakati wa kongamano la Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) Press Club jijini Nairobi, lililowaleta pamoja wanahabari wa kilimo, wahariri, watafiti, wabunifu, watunga sera, wakulima na wadau wengine kujadili namna ya kujenga kilimo kinachostahimili athari za mabadiliko ya tabianchi. Picha|Sammy Waweru[/caption] Juma alisema licha ya juhudi za kuhimiza matumizi ya teknolojia za kidijitali katika kilimo, wakulima wengi bado wanahitaji teknolojia rahisi kutumia, kutunza na kumudu. "Teknolojia zinapaswa pia kuzingatia mahitaji ya wanawake kwa kuwa nyepesi na zinazobebeka kwa urahisi," alielezea. Alitaja pampu za maji zinazotumia nishati ya jua na mashine za kilimo kuwa miongoni mwa teknolojia ambazo bado ni ghali kwa wakulima wengi. Kwa mfano, alisema pampu za maji huuzwa kati ya Sh40,000 na Sh200,000, hali inayozifanya zisifikie wakulima wengi wa mashamba madogo. Juma aliwataka wabunifu kuzingatia uwezo wa wakulima kifedha, ili teknolojia wanazobuni ziweze kuwasaidia kukabiliana na athari za mabadiliko ya tabianchi. Mwanachama wa Baraza Kuu la Kenya Editors Guild, Agnes Mwangangi, alisema wanahabari wana jukumu kueleza simulizi za athari na suluhisho za mabadiliko ya tabianchi, kuwawajibisha viongozi na kusaidia wananchi kuelewa masuala hayo. "Vijana, kwa mfano, wanaongoza katika ubunifu wa teknolojia za kilimo na ujuzi wao wa kidijitali unapaswa kutumiwa kuimarisha usalama wa chakula na kupunguza njaa nchini," Agnes alihimiza.
