CHAMA cha Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) kinachoongozwa na Rigathi Gachagua kimeunda kamati maalumu ya watu saba kuchuja viongozi wanaotaka kuhama kutoka chama cha United Democratic Alliance (UDA) kabla ya kupokelewa rasmi. Hatua hiyo imechukuliwa baada ya kutokea mvutano mkali kati ya Bw Gachagua na baadhi ya washirika wake waliochaguliwa kuhusu iwapo wahamiaji kutoka UDA wanapaswa kupokelewa bila masharti. Kamati hiyo itaongozwa na Kaimu Katibu Mkuu wa DCP, Seneta wa Nyandarua John Methu. Wanachama wengine ni Seneta wa Murang'a Joe Nyutu, Seneta wa Kiambu Karungo wa Thang'wa, Mwakilishi wa Wanawake wa Kirinyaga Njeri Maina, Mbunge wa Naivasha Jayne Kihara, Mbunge wa Kipipiri Wanjiku Muhia na Mbunge wa Embakasi Central Benjamin Gathiru. Bw Methu alisema uamuzi wa kuunda kamati hiyo ulifikiwa baada ya vikao 19 vya mashauriano vilivyoanza Juni 16, 2026, katika makazi ya Bw Gachagua, Wamunyoro, na baadaye kuendelea katika Hoteli ya Outspan, Nyeri. Alisema DCP imepokea maombi 816 kutoka kwa viongozi wanaotaka kuhama kutoka upande wa serikali. Kwa mujibu wake, miongoni mwao ni mawaziri watano, makatibu wanane wa wizara, wabunge 83, maseneta watano, magavana wanne pamoja na madiwani na maafisa wa mashirika ya serikali. Bw Methu alisema kila anayetaka kujiunga na DCP atalazimika kutangaza hadharani kuwa hatagombea uchaguzi wa 2027 kupitia chama chochote kinachomuunga mkono Rais William Ruto. Aidha, alisema hakuna mwanasiasa atakayeruhusiwa kumfikia moja kwa moja Bw Gachagua ili kuomba kujiunga na chama. Alidai baadhi ya wanaotaka kuhamia DCP wamekuwa wakipiga picha na Bw Gachagua kisha kusambaza taarifa kuwa walitoa hongo ili wapate tiketi za moja kwa moja katika uchaguzi mkuu ujao. Pia aliwashutumu baadhi yao kwa kurekodi kwa siri mazungumzo yao na kiongozi huyo na kuyapeleka kwa serikali. Bw Methu alisema wafuasi wengi wa DCP bado hawajawasamehe viongozi waliomuunga mkono Rais Ruto kumng'oa Bw Gachagua kutoka wadhifa wa Naibu Rais mnamo 2024. Kwa upande wake, Mbunge wa Ol Kalou Kamau Ngotho alisema Bw Gachagua amewaambia viongozi wa chama kuwa amewasamehe wote waliopiga kura ya kumuondoa madarakani. Alisema hatua hiyo ilitokana na ushauri wa viongozi wa kidini na wazee waliomtaka aunganishe viongozi badala ya kuendeleza tofauti za kisiasa. Hata hivyo, Mbunge wa Mwea Mary Maingi alikosoa hatua ya kuchuja wanaotaka kuhamia DCP, akisema hakuna mwanasiasa anayepaswa kuamua hatima ya wengine kisiasa. Naye Mbunge wa Laikipia Mashariki Mwangi Kiunjuri alisema viongozi hawapaswi kulazimishwa kujiunga na chama kimoja kwa kuwa wananchi ndio huamua watakaochagua. Mbunge wa Naivasha Jayne Kihara alisema suala hilo limegawanya chama kwa sababu baadhi ya wanachama wanaamini waliowatesa kisiasa hawawezi kupokelewa bila kuchunguzwa. Aliongeza kuwa viongozi wanaohusishwa na makundi ya wahuni waliovuruga mikutano ya DCP au waliohusishwa na vurugu za uchaguzi mdogo wa Ol Kalou hawatapokelewa kirahisi. Kwa upande wake, Seneta Karungo wa Thang'wa alisema mchakato wa uchunguzi ni muhimu ili kuzuia wanaoweza kuhujumu chama kutoka ndani. Naye Mwakilishi wa Wanawake wa Kirinyaga Njeri Maina alisema kamati hiyo haitakuwa ya kujinufaisha kwani wanachama hawatalipwa posho yoyote. Alisema kazi yake ni kusikiliza maoni ya wananchi na kutoa mapendekezo ya iwapo mwombaji anafaa kupokelewa au la, bila kutoza ada wala kutoa adhabu yoyote.
