Ndovu 14 wafa kwa njia ya kutatanisha mbugani Amboseli
SHIRIKA la Huduma kwa Wanyamapori Kenya (KWS) limeanzisha uchunguzi kuhusu vifo vya kutatanisha vya ndovu 14 katika Mbuga ya Wanyama ya Amboseli mwezi uliopita. Viongozi wa Kaunti ya Kajiado nao wanataka ripoti ya haraka kubaini kilichosababisha vifo vya ndovu hao. Mizoga ya wanyama hao, waliokuwa wa umri na jinsia tofauti, ilipatikana katika maeneo mbalimbali ya hifadhi hiyo ndani ya kipindi cha wiki mbili. Madaktari wa mifugo wa KWS walichukua sampuli kwa uchunguzi wa maabara ili kubaini chanzo cha vifo hivyo. Afisa mmoja wa KWS, aliyezungumza kwa masharti ya kutotajwa jina, alisema ndovu hao walikuwa wakifuatiliwa na madaktari baada ya kuonyesha dalili za ugonjwa kabla ya kufariki. "Madaktari walijaribu kuwapa matibabu lakini hawakupata nafuu. Mwanzoni ilidhaniwa walikuwa na uchovu wa misuli, lakini matibabu hayakufaulu. Baada ya uchunguzi wa mizoga na ukusanyaji wa sampuli, ilizikwa ndani ya hifadhi," akasema. "Hii ndiyo idadi kubwa zaidi ya tembo kufa kwa muda mfupi katika mfumo wa ikolojia wa Amboseli," akaongeza. Mkuu wa Mawasiliano wa KWS, Duncan Juma, alisema sampuli zilifikishwa kwa maabara ya Serikali na uchunguzi unaendelea. Vifo hivyo vimewatia wasiwasi viongozi wa eneo hilo wakiongozwa na Gavana wa Kajiado Joseph Ole Lenku, ambao wametaka KWS ichapishe mara moja ripoti ya uchunguzi. "Jamii zimeishi na ndovu hao kwa miaka kadhaa. Hatujawahi kushuhudia idadi kubwa namna hii ikifa kwa muda mfupi," akasema Bw Lenku. Seneta wa Kajiado Samuel Seki pia aliikosoa KWS, akiishutumu kwa kutumia kesi mahakamani kuchelewesha uhamishaji wa usimamizi wa mbuga ya Amboseli kwa Serikali ya Kaunti ya Kajiado pamoja na mapato yake.
