BARAZA la wazee kijijini hapa lililazimika kuandaa kikao cha dharura kuonya mmoja wa wanachama wake. Hii ni baada ya tabia, lugha, mavazi na mienendo ya mzee huyo wa miaka 78 kubadilika ghafla. Hivi majuzi mzee huyo alimtembelea mmoja wa watoto wake wanaoishi mjini. Inaaminika mitindo ya mavazi na muonekano wa vijana wanaoishi jijini ndiyo iliyomgeuza mzee kimtazamo kwani tangu arudi amekuwa akivalia mavazi ya kizazi cha Gen Z. Ni hali ambayo imemwacha mkewe, watoto, wajukuu na hata majirani ambao wamekuwa wakiishi naye mashambani kumshangaa na hata kuhisi kuaibika. Juhudi za mkewe kujaribu kumweleza aache kuiga mtindo wa vijana ziligonga mwamba kwani amekuwa akidakia kwamba yeye bado ni mdogo. "Sikiliza wewe. Mimi bado natamba. Uniache kabisa," akafoka buda huyo naye akafahamisha baraza la wazee mtaani mzee akaitwa kushauriwa akome kuiga rika ambalo halilingani na umri wake uliosonga.

Kwa kawaida, mwana anapooa hujenga makazi yake mwenyewe, lakini asiporudi kuendeleza boma la wazazi, historia ya familia inaweza kufutika kabisa. Hiyo ndiyo hali iliyo katika boma la marehemu Cecil Ouma, kijana aliyeuawa kwa risasi akiwa gari la Katibu wa Idara ya Masuala ya Vijana, Fikirini Jacobs, jijini Nairobi. Nyumba ya wazazi wake katika kijiji cha Kogelo Agoro, Kaunti ya Homa Bay, imeharibika vibaya. Kuta za udongo zimebomoka, paa limeharibiwa na kutu, mlango umeharibiwa na mchwa huku kichuguu kikionekana nyuma ya nyumba. Uwanja umejaa vichaka kiasi kwamba kwa muda mrefu umekuwa njia ya mkato kwa majirani. Lakini ndoto ya Ouma ilikuwa kufufua nyumba hiyo na kuondoa fedheha ya kuitwa gunda. Shemeji yake, Ascar Adhiambo, alisema walikuwa wamepanga kuanza ujenzi Agosti mwaka huu. "Tulikuwa tayari tumepanga mahali ambapo angejenga nyumba yake," alisema. Ouma alipoteza wazazi wake akiwa Darasa la Pili na kulelewa na mjomba wake hadi alipomaliza shule ya msingi. Baadaye alihamia Nairobi kutafuta ajira lakini, kutokana na ukosefu wa vyeti vya juu vya masomo, alijipatia riziki kama mhamasishaji wa vijana katika mikutano ya viongozi wa kisiasa. Mapema mwaka huu alimshawishi Bi Adhiambo kuacha kazi yake ya ususi Nairobi na kurejea kijijini ili awe msimamizi wa mipango yake ya kujenga upya boma la familia. "Aliahidi kugharamia masomo ya watoto wangu wanne. Nilirejea kijijini nikafungua saluni huku nikisubiri kuhamia nyumbani kwa wakwe zangu baada ya nyumba kujengwa," alisema. Sasa familia imeachwa katika sintofahamu. Mjomba wake Jonathan Otieno alisema walikuwa wanamtegemea Ouma kubadilisha maisha yao lakini ndoto hiyo imezimika. Familia pia inasema haina uwezo wa kugharamia mazishi na imeomba serikali kubeba gharama zote kutokana na mazingira ya kifo chake. Wakati huohuo, jamaa wanataka haki itendeke. Binamu yake Samuel Odhiambo alitaka uchunguzi ufanywe kwa uwazi na kuonya watu dhidi ya kuchangisha fedha kwa jina la marehemu bila idhini ya familia. Licha ya madai yaliyomhusisha na siasa chafu, familia na marafiki walimtetea Ouma wakisema alikuwa mchapakazi, mkarimu na tegemeo kuu la ukoo wake.
