WASHUKIWA saba waliokamatwa kutokana na shambulio la Ijumaa kwenye msafara wa Linda Mwananchi huko Keumbu, Nyaribari Chache katika Kaunti ya Kisii walishindwa kujibu mashtaka Jumatatu baada ya afisa aliyewakamata na mwendesha mashtaka kukosa kufika mahakamani. Ajabu ni kuwa, hata faili ya kushtakiwa kwao haikuiwasilishwa wakati Hakimu Mkuu Mkazi Caroline Jeruto wa Mahakama za Kisii alitaka kusikia kilichowaleta mahakamani. Kutokana na hilo, aliamuru washukiwa hao warudishwe rumande hadi upande wa mashtaka utakapokuwa tayari kuendelea. Washukiwa hao saba, sita wa kiume na mmoja wa kike, walikamatwa wikendi iliyopita kufuatia machafuko yaliyosababisha kifo cha mtu mmoja na kuacha magari kadhaa yameharibika, ikiwa ni pamoja na gari la Jaji Mkuu wa zamani David Maraga. Mahakama ilikuwa imejaa washukiwa hao walipofikishwa kizimbani, wote wakiwa wameficha sura zao kwa barakoa na sweta zenye kofia wasijulikane. Washukiwa hao wanahusishwa na kundi la Ebirongo, kundi linaloshutumiwa kwa kurusha mawe na kutumia mipini wakati Linda Mwananchi walikuwa wakielekea Keroka. Kabla ya kesi kuanza, Hakimu Jeruto aligutushwa na uwepo wa waandishi wa habari mahakamani. "Nimevutiwa na uwepo wa vyombo vya habari mahakamani. Waandishi, mnataka kesi gani ili niweze kuishughulikia kwanza kabla ya mambo mengine?" aliuliza. Kutokana na ukosefu wa mwendesha mashtaka wala afisa wa kukamata ambao wangeendeleza kesi hiyo, hakimu aliamuru washukiwa wapelekwe kwenye seli hadi pande zote ziwe tayari kuendelea. Kufikia wakati wetu wa kwenda mitamboni, washukiwa walikuwa bado hawajarudi mahakamani. Mara tu baada ya shambulio la kikatili dhidi ya kundi la Linda Mwananchi, video zilisambaa mtandaoni zikionekana kuwaonyesha wanawake na wanaume katika kundi hilo wakiwafukuza wafuasi na kushiriki katika vurugu zilizosababisha kifo. Washukiwa walikamatwa baada ya wapelelezi kukagua video na kuhoji mashahidi. Hakimu aliamuru wazuiliwe katika Kituo cha Polisi cha Kisii. Kuchelewa huko kulisababisha kuchanganyikiwa miongoni mwa jamaa waliofika mahakamani. Linda Mwananchi, vuguvugu la kisiasa linaloongozwa na Seneta wa Nairobi Edwin Sifuna, limelaani shambulio hilo na kutoa wito wa uchunguzi wa haraka kuhusu kifo na uharibifu huo. Wakati huo huo, amri imetolewa kwa Mbunge wa Nyaribari Chache Zaheer Jhanda kurekodi taarifa baada ya kuhusishwa na machafuko hayo. Polisi wanasisitiza kwamba uchunguzi unaendelea na kukamatwa zaidi kunaweza kutokea. Tukio la Keumbu limezidisha mjadala kuhusu vurugu za kisiasa huko Kisii.
