Madaktari, wauguzi waliohudumia mgonjwa wa Ebola waeleza sababu ya kukataa karantini
MADAKTARI na wauguzi wanane waliomhudumia mgonjwa wa kwanza wa Ebola nchini Kenya wameeleza wasiwasi wao kuhusu hatua ya kupelekwa karantini katika jengo lile lile la hospitali ya Nairobi Hospital ambako mgonjwa huyo alitibiwa na baadaye kufariki dunia. Katika taarifa ya pamoja, wahudumu hao wa afya walisisitiza kuwa hawapingi maagizo ya karantini wala ufuatiliaji wa kiafya unaohitajika kufuatia kisa hicho. Hata hivyo, wanahoji utaratibu unaotumika kwa sasa wakisema hauzingatii viwango tofauti vya hatari ya maambukizi kwa watu waliohusika. Kwa mujibu wao, kila mtu aliyewasiliana na mgonjwa huyo anaonekana kushughulikiwa kana kwamba alikuwa katika kiwango sawa cha hatari ya kuambukizwa virusi vya Ebola, jambo ambalo wanasema si sahihi kimatibabu. "Tunaelewa uzito wa kisa hiki na tunakubali kushirikiana kikamilifu na hatua za kulinda afya ya umma. Hata hivyo, tunataka tathmini ya hatari ifanywe kulingana na kiwango halisi cha kila mtu," walisema. Wahudumu hao walifichua kuwa mwanzoni waliarifiwa kuwa wangekamilisha siku 21 za ufuatiliaji na kujitenga nyumbani chini ya usimamizi wa Wizara ya Afya. Baadaye, hata hivyo, walipewa maagizo ya kuhamia katika jengo la East Wing la Hospitali ya Nairobi ili kuendelea na karantini yao. Nairobi Hospital imesema kituo hicho kiko mbali na majengo mengine ya hospitali, kina lango lake maalum na wafanyakazi wake wa kujitegemea. Hata hivyo, wahudumu hao wanasisitiza kuwa walimhudumia mgonjwa huyo wakiwa wamevaa vifaa vyote vya kujikinga vinavyopendekezwa katika visa vya Ebola. Aidha, hakuna aliyeripoti kuwa na hitilafu kwenye mavazi hayo ya kinga wala kuhusika katika mtagusano wa moja kwa moja usio na kinga. Kwa msingi huo, wanataka tathmini ya kibinafsi ya hatari ifanywe kwa kila mhudumu badala ya kuwekewa viwango sawa na watu waliokuwa na mtagusano wa karibu na mgonjwa bila vifaa vya kujikinga. Walinukuu miongozo ya Shirika la Afya Duniani (WHO) inayotaka wahudumu wa afya wanaohusika katika matibabu ya wagonjwa wa Ebola kutathminiwa kulingana na kiwango halisi cha hatari ya kila mmoja. Miongozo hiyo inaeleza kuwa wahudumu waliokuwa na vifaa sahihi vya kujikinga hawapaswi kuchukuliwa sawa na watu waliokutana na mgonjwa bila kinga. "Kuwa karibu na mgonjwa pekee si kipimo sahihi cha hatari. Kinachopaswa kuangaliwa ni aina ya mtagusano na matumizi ya vifaa vya kujikinga," walisema. Pia wamepinga uwezekano wa kuwekwa pamoja katika karantini na watu waliotangamana zaidi na mgonjwa huyo. Kwa maoni yao, wahudumu waliotumia mavazi kamili ya kinga hawapaswi kushughulikiwa sawa na watu waliokuwa na mtagusano wa moja kwa moja bila ulinzi wa kutosha. Iwapo karantini ya taasisi itaendelea kutumika, wanapendekeza watu watenganishwe kulingana na viwango vya hatari walivyokumbana navyo. Pia wanataka kila mhusika apewe chumba chake binafsi chenye choo, huduma bora za matibabu, chakula cha kutosha, maji safi na vifaa vingine muhimu. Mbali na hilo, wahudumu hao wanataka usaidizi wa kisaikolojia na ufuatiliaji wa afya kazini kwa wote waliohusika katika kushughulikia mgonjwa huyo. Wanasema kazi yao iliwaweka katika mazingira hatari na hivyo wanapaswa kupewa fidia au marupurupu maalum ya mazingira hatari. Katika barua ya ndani ya hospitali hiyo Oktoba 6, Mkurugenzi Mkuu Dkt Felix Osano alisema wafanyakazi waliotambuliwa kuwa walitangamana na mgonjwa huyo wawasiliane moja kwa moja ili kubaini kiwango cha hatari walichokuwa nacho. Naye Katibu Mkuu wa Chama cha Madaktari, Wafamasia na Madaktari wa Meno (KMPDU), Dkt Davji Atellah, alisema wahudumu wa afya waliokuwa wamevaa vifaa vya kujikinga hawapaswi kuwekwa pamoja na watu waliotagusana moja kwa moja na mgonjwa bila kinga. Alisisitiza kuwa madaktari na wauguzi waliokuwa mstari wa mbele katika kuokoa maisha ya mgonjwa huyo wanastahili kulindwa na kupewa mazingira salama wakati wa karantini. Hata hivyo, Dkt Atellah alisema watu wanaotambuliwa kuwa katika hatari ya kuambukizwa Ebola wanapaswa kufuatiliwa kwa karibu ili kuzuia uwezekano wa kusambaza maambukizi kwa wengine.
