MWANAMME mmoja na mwanamke walifariki katika matukio ya kusikitisha Kaunti ya Migori baada ya mzozo uliodaiwa kuhusisha deni la Sh700 kugeuka vurugu na hasira za wananchi. Tukio hilo lilitokea katika Kijiji cha Kamunga, ambapo Mercela Anyango aliondoka nyumbani kwake asubuhi ya Septemba 30 kwenda kudai pesa alizokuwa akidaiwa na jirani yake, Oburu Owino. Kwa mujibu wa mumewe, Kennedy Onyango Juma, mkewe alikuwa amemweleza kwamba angeenda nyumbani kwa Owino kudai pesa hizo ili kulipa baadhi ya bili za familia. Baadaye Juma aliporudi kutoka sokoni Awendo na kukuta nyumba ikiwa tupu, aliamua kumfuata mkewe nyumbani kwa jirani huyo. Hata hivyo, alipofika hakuwakuta wawili hao. "Niliamini angekuwa bado huko kwa sababu alikuwa amenieleza kuwa angeenda kudai deni hilo," alisema Juma. Alipokuwa akirejea nyumbani, alikumbana na tukio la kutisha la mwili wa mkewe ukiwa umetupwa katika shamba la miwa karibu na eneo hilo. Kifo hicho kiliwashtua wakazi wa kijiji ambao walikusanyika haraka baada ya habari kusambaa. Hasira ziliongezeka na wakazi wakamtafuta Owino, ambaye walimtaja kuwa mshukiwa mkuu. Kamanda wa Polisi wa Kaunti Ndogo ya Uriri, Ali Bashir, alisema maafisa walipokea taarifa kuwa kundi la wananchi wenye ghadhabu lilikuwa linamtafuta Owino. Baadaye ilibainika kuwa alikuwa ameenda Soko la Uriri. Huko ndipo wananchi walimfuata na kumshambulia na kumuua kabla ya polisi kufika eneo la tukio. Kamanda Bashir alikosoa vikali hatua ya wananchi kujichukulia sheria mkononi, akisema uchunguzi wa awali haukuwa umebaini ushahidi wowote kumhusisha Owino moja kwa moja na kifo cha Anyango. "Ukweli kwamba mwili ulipatikana karibu na nyumba yake haumfanyi kuwa muuaji. Hilo linaweza kuthibitishwa tu baada ya uchunguzi kukamilika," alisema. Afisa huyo alisema mzozo wa deni ungeweza kutatuliwa kwa amani kupitia usaidizi wa chifu, naibu chifu au wazee wa kijiji badala ya kusababisha umwagikaji wa damu.
