WAKAZI wa Samburu wameibua malalamishi baada ya mamia ya ng'ombe, mbuzi na punda kuripotiwa kuuawa wakati wa operesheni ya usalama iliyolenga majangili na kurejesha mifugo iliyoibwa. Operesheni hiyo ilianzishwa kufuatia mashambulizi yaliyotekelezwa na majangili katika mpaka wa Samburu na Isiolo, ambapo maafisa wawili wa Kitengo cha Kupambana na Wizi wa Mifugo (ASTU), polisi mmoja wa akiba na raia wawili waliuawa walipokuwa wakifuatilia mifugo iliyoibwa. Hata hivyo, viongozi na wakazi wa Samburu Mashariki sasa wanasema operesheni hiyo imesababisha hasara kubwa kwa familia zinazotegemea ufugaji kama chanzo kikuu cha maisha.Gavana wa Samburu, Lati Lelelit, alisema ingawa kaunti yake iliunga mkono juhudi za kuimarisha usalama, jinsi operesheni hiyo ilivyotekelezwa ilisababisha ukiukaji mkubwa wa haki za binadamu na uharibifu wa mali ya wananchi. Hata hivyo, Mbunge wa Samburu Mashariki Jackson Lekumontare alisema tathmini yake inaonyesha zaidi ya mbuzi 700, ng'ombe 500 na punda kadhaa waliangamia wakati wa operesheni hiyo. Kwa upande wake, Chama cha Wataalamu wa Samburu kimesema kimeorodhesha angalau wanyama 717 waliouawa, wakiwemo mbuzi 415, ng'ombe 352 na punda 50, huku uchunguzi ukiendelea. Chama hicho kinasema hasara hiyo haihusiani tu na mali bali pia maisha ya familia nyingi zinazotegemea mifugo kwa chakula, elimu ya watoto, huduma za afya na mapato ya kila siku. Tukio hilo lilichochea maandamano katika maeneo ya Samburu Mashariki huku wakazi wakitaka uchunguzi huru ufanywe na familia zilizoathirika zilipwe fidia.Seneta wa Nairobi Edwin Sifuna na mwenzake wa Samburu Lelegwe Ltumbesi pia wameitaka serikali kueleza mazingira yaliyosababisha mauaji hayo ya mifugo. Katibu Mkuu wa Chama cha Wanafunzi wa Vyuo Vikuu cha Samburu, Meshack Ramati, alitaka uchunguzi wa kina ufanywe kubaini idadi ya mifugo iliyouawa, maafisa waliohusika na walioidhinisha operesheni hiyo. "Serikali ina wajibu wa kulinda raia, mali yao na heshima yao. Tunataka uwazi, haki na fidia kwa familia zilizopoteza mifugo yao," alisema.Wakazi wanasema juhudi za kupambana na ujangili ni muhimu, lakini hazipaswi kufanywa kwa njia inayohatarisha maisha na uchumi wa wananchi wasio na hatia.

Majengo ya kisasa yanavyoharibu utamu wa uswahili wa Mombasa

Mzee Abubakar Mohamed, mwenye umri wa miaka 90, anasema nyumba hizo zilijengwa kwa kuzingatia mazingira ya pwani yenye joto na unyevunyevu mwingi."Muundo wake uliwezesha hewa kupita kwa urahisi na kutoa hali ya baridi ndani ya nyumba. Pia uliakisi historia na utamaduni wa watu wa pwani," anasema. Kwa mujibu wa wakazi, ongezeko la thamani ya ardhi na mahitaji makubwa ya nyumba limewavutia wawekezaji wengi wanaotaka kujenga majengo ya kisasa katika maeneo ambayo hapo awali yalikuwa na nyumba za familia moja. Mkazi wa Majengo, Mohamed Hussein, ni mmoja wa walioamua kushirikiana na mwekezaji badala ya kuuza mali yake.Nyumba yake ilibomolewa na sasa jengo la ghorofa linaendelea kujengwa katika eneo hilo. Kupitia makubaliano yao, Hussein atamiliki nyumba sita ndani ya jengo hilo pindi mradi utakapokamilika. "Mwekezaji alinipa chaguo la kuuza au kushirikiana naye. Nilichagua ushirikiano kwa sababu nilitaka kuendelea kuwa na sehemu ya umiliki wa ardhi hiyo," alisema.Wakazi wengine wamechagua kuuza nyumba zao na kuhamia maeneo mengine, huku baadhi wakitumia fedha walizopata kuanza maisha mapya nje ya jiji.Lakini pamoja na faida za kiuchumi zinazotokana na miradi hiyo, wataalamu wanatahadharisha kuhusu hatari ya Mombasa kupoteza urithi wake wa kihistoria na usanifu wa kipekee.
