Wanaume wawili wakanusha kusafirisha kokeni ya Sh4 milioni
WASHUKIWA wawili wameshtakiwa katika Mahakama ya Mombasa kwa madai ya kula njama ya kusafirisha kokeini yenye thamani ya karibu Sh4 milioni. Hilton Gocho Chopeta na Mohamed Jabir Ali walifikishwa mahakamani kuhusiana na makosa yanayodaiwa kutendeka kati ya Julai 15 na 16, 2026, katika Kaunti ya Mombasa. Kwa mujibu wa hati ya mashtaka, wawili hao wanadaiwa kula njama kwa pamoja na watu wengine ambao bado hawajakamatwa ili kusafirisha kokeini, kinyume na sheria. Mbali na shtaka la kula njama, wawili hao wanakabiliwa na mashtaka tofauti ya kusafirisha dawa za kulevya. Bw Chopeta anadaiwa kusafirisha gramu 734.9528 za kokeini zenye thamani ya Sh2,939,811. Kwa upande mwingine, Bw Ali anadaiwa kuhifadhi gramu 256.478 za kokeini zenye thamani ya karibu Sh1,025,912. Jumla ya kokeini iliyopatikana katika operesheni hiyo ilikuwa gramu 991.4308, yenye thamani ya pamoja ya Sh3,965,723. Washukiwa hao walikanusha mashtaka. Katika hati ya kiapo iliyopinga kuachiliwa kwao kwa dhamana, wapelelezi waliiambia mahakama kuwa washukiwa hao huenda wangetoroka iwapo wangeachiliwa kabla kesi hiyo kusikilizwa na kuamuliwa. Konstebo Gershom Wachitsa, mpelelezi kutoka Kitengo cha Kupambana na Dawa za Kulevya cha Idara ya Kuchunguza Uhalifu (DCI) mjini Mombasa na afisa anayechunguza kesi hiyo, alisema uchunguzi bado unaendelea, kwa hivyo ni muhimu kuwaweka washukiwa hao kizuizini. Polisi walisema Bw Chopeta alikamatwa Julai 15 ikiaminika alikuwa akielekea kupanda ndege kwenda Dubai. Alisindikizwa hadi katika ofisi za DCI, ambako wapelelezi walisema alitoa kwa njia ya haja kubwa vidonge 15 vilivyoshukiwa kuwa na kokeini kabla ya kupelekwa katika Hospitali ya Port Reitz, ambako alitoa vidonge vingine 29, na kufikisha jumla ya vidonge vilivyopatikana mwilini mwake hadi 44. Siku iliyofuata, Bw Ali alikamatwa alipokuwa akivuka Kivuko cha Likoni kuelekea Kisiwa cha Mombasa. Wapelelezi walisema baadaye aliwaongoza maafisa hadi nyumbani kwake Bombolulu kuchukua funguo kabla ya kuwaelekeza kwenye nyumba nyingine katika eneo la Bamburi Fisheries, ambako vidonge 16 zaidi vilivyoshukiwa kuwa na kokeini vilipatikana. Afisa mpelelezi aliiambia mahakama kuwa Bw Ali tayari ana kesi nyingine ya uhalifu inayosubiri kusikilizwa mahakamani. Upande wa mashtaka uliiomba mahakama iwanyime wawili hao dhamana hadi kesi hiyo isikilizwe na kuamuliwa kwa maslahi ya haki. Hata hivyo, washukiwa hao walipinga ombi la upande wa mashtaka, wakisema kuwa Serikali imeshindwa kutoa sababu za msingi za kuwanyima dhamana. Kupitia wakili wao, waliiambia mahakama kuwa haki zao za kikatiba tayari zilikuwa zimekiukwa baada ya kufikishwa mahakamani nje ya muda uliowekwa kisheria baada ya kukamatwa. Walisema pia kuwa upande wa mashtaka haujaonyesha jinsi kuwaachilia kwa dhamana kungeingilia uchunguzi au utekelezaji wa haki. Kwa mujibu wa muhtasari wa uchunguzi, mshukiwa alitoa vidonge 15 mara ya kwanza, akifuatiwa na vingine vitatu siku aliyolazwa. Katika saa za mapema za siku iliyofuata, alitoa vidonge vingine vitano asubuhi, kufuatiwa na kidonge kimoja, na vingine vitatu. Mnamo Julai 17, alitoa vidonge viwili vya mwisho, na kufikisha jumla ya vidonge vilivyopatikana hadi 44. Uchunguzi wa eksrei ulithibitisha vidonge vyote vilitoka.
