WANASAYANSI wameibuka na sababu kadhaa ambazo zinasababisha wanaume kufa mapema kuliko wanawake hasa yakiegemea maradhi na mtindo wa maisha. Wanawake huishi kwa miaka mingi kuliko wanaume kwa mujibu wa tafiti ambazo zimefanywa hapo awali. Kwa mfano Amerika, nchi ambayo imeendelea na ina sekta ya afya iliyoimarika ya kiafya, wanaume wengi huishi hadi miaka 76 huku wanawake wakifika miaka 81 na hata zaidi. Kwa muda sasa wanasayansi wamekuwa wakifuatilia nini husababisha hali hiyo na ikabainika kuwa magonjwa ya moyo huwaathiri wanaume wengi kuliko wanawake. Pia wanaume wanaweza kuathiriwa na unene kupita kiasi kuliko wanawake. Awali kulikuwa na dhana kuwa wanaume walikuwa wakiaga japo wana afya imara kuliko wanawake. Hii ni kwa sababu ilidhaniwa kuwa wanawake walikuwa wakifikiriwa walikuwa wakiandamwa na magonjwa yanayotokana na msongo wa mawazo. Hata hivyo, imebainika kuwa huu ni uongo na afya ya wanaume hutegemea sana mtindo wa maisha pamoja na maslahi au maisha ya kijamii. "Ni bayolojia na tabia. Tatizo ni kwamba wanaume wanasubiri ugonjwa uwalemee kabla ya kuenda hospitalini na hawamakinikii matibabu au vipimo vya kugundua maradhi mapema," akasema Mtaalamu wa Afya Dkt David Shusterman akizungumza na jarida New York Post.
